Abstract

The professionalism of law enforcement officers is a crucial element in realizing a just and dignified justice system. This article analyzes the role of humanitarian values as an ethical foundation in improving the standards of professionalism of law enforcement officers in Indonesia. Using a qualitative approach and literature review, this research examines how humanitarian values such as empathy, integrity, and respect for human dignity can transform law enforcement practices. The analysis shows that internalizing humanitarian values in training systems, institutional policies, and oversight mechanisms can significantly improve the quality of legal services, reduce abuse of authority, and build public trust. These findings confirm that true professionalism is not only about technical competence but also about a commitment to universal human values. This article recommends the integration of humanitarian values-based character education into the law enforcement officer education curriculum and the strengthening of accountability mechanisms oriented towards protecting human rights.
