Continuity of Midwifery Care (COC) in The Primary Clinic : A Case Report (Asuhan Kebidanan Keberlanjutan di Klinik Utama : Laporan Kasus)
Abstract
Continuity of care is a fundamental component of the midwifery practice model in providing holistic care, establishing sustained partnerships to offer ongoing support, and fostering mutual trust between midwives and clients. According to the Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (RMNCH) framework, continuity of care encompasses integrated services for women and children from the preconception period through pregnancy and childbirth, the postnatal period, and early childhood. Care is delivered by families and communities through outpatient services, clinics, and other healthcare facilities. This case study aims to describe the implementation of COC for Mrs. P at Harapan Ayah Bunda Main Clinic, Tangerang. The study employed a qualitative method with a comprehensive case study approach covering third-trimester antenatal care, labor and delivery, newborn care, postpartum care, and contraceptive services. The results showed that all stages of care were carried out under normal conditions. The mother’s hemoglobin level was 12.1 g/dL, indicating good nutritional status. Labor occurred spontaneously without episiotomy, and the baby was born healthy with immediate initiation of breastfeeding after birth. During the postpartum period, the mother experienced mild pain, which was managed through education and the application of deep breathing techniques. Furthermore, the mother chose an intrauterine device (IUD) as a contraceptive method, which is safe for breastfeeding mothers and effective for long-term use. The implementation of continuity of midwifery care was proven to have a positive impact on improving the quality of services and supporting the health and well-being of both mother and baby.
