Abstract

The analysis will be directed at identifying key themes in Engineer's thought, such as the reinterpretation of religious texts, the meaning of social monotheism, the concept of justice in Islam, and his defense of women's rights. The main objective of this study is to describe and analyze the thoughts of Asghar Ali Engineer who discusses the theology of liberation and its relevance to the modern Islamic context. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a library research method, which focuses on the analysis of the thoughts of figures, rather than empirical field data. Meanwhile, the design of this study is a thematic analysis, aiming to find patterns and meanings in Engineer's works. Thus, liberation theology according to Asghar Ali Engineer has significant relevance in strengthening the role of religion as a moral and social force that frees humans from the shackles of injustice.
