Abstract

This study aims to analyze Taylor Swift’s song “The Man” using a feminist communication theory framework to examine gender representation, the role of mass media, and the influence of popular music on public perception. The analysis highlights how the song’s lyrics and music video visuals reflect differences in the treatment of men and women within the music industry, as well as how gender identity construction is shaped and influenced by popular media. The research employs a descriptive-quantitative approach, utilizing both primary and secondary data. The findings reveal that Taylor Swift’s “The Man” critiques gender inequality and exposes patriarchal bias in modern society. Therefore, this study underscores the importance of challenging gender stereotypes in the music industry while promoting public awareness of gender equality. This study contributes to strengthening critical discourse on gender representation in popular music by demonstrating how Taylor Swift’s works can serve as a medium for education and social reflection to foster public awareness of gender equality.
