The study of Introduction to Legal Studies holds a crucial position within the framework of legal scholarship because it provides the basic conceptual tools for understanding what law is, why it exists, and how its normative structure functions. This foundational perspective becomes essential for explaining the operation of law both as a mechanism for ensuring social order and as a pathway toward achieving justice. In the context of Indonesia’s legal system, which continues to adapt to the fast-changing conditions of modern society, the relevance of this field becomes even more prominent, especially when addressing the tension between legal certainty and substantive justice. By employing analytical reflection on the fundamental principles of law, this paper examines how the discipline reinforces the doctrines of legality, the safeguarding of individual rights, and the rational execution of law enforcement as core elements of a trustworthy legal system. The analysis indicates that the degree to which these foundational values are effectively incorporated into statutory regulations, judicial reasoning, and the practices of legal authorities has a direct impact on societal confidence in the rule of law. Consequently, Introduction to Legal Studies is not merely the initial stage of legal education but serves as a philosophical, epistemological, and normative base that shapes the quality of justice and legal certainty in Indonesia’s contemporary legal landscape.
