EDUKASI PENGELOLAAN SAMPAH DENGAN METODE ECOBRICK DI NAGARI SIMALANGGANG

The improper disposal of plastic waste into the environment is increasingly common, including in Nagari Simalanggang, Lima Puluh Kota Regency. As a form of preventive contribution, students from Universitas Negeri Padang carried out a socialization activity on plastic waste management through the Community Service Program (KKN). This activity aims to educate the community to improve awareness and skills in waste management. Plastic waste, which is difficult to decompose, poses an environmental challenge that requires innovative solutions, one of which is the ecobrick method. In addition, this activity directly supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) through the application of the reduce–reuse–recycle principles using ecobricks. This study employed a qualitative descriptive method to provide an in-depth description of the implementation of the socialization activity. The results show that the socialization provided new understanding to the community regarding the importance of waste separation and the long-term benefits of ecobricks as a creative waste-management solution. The high enthusiasm and active participation of the community indicate that this method is effective in fostering environmental awareness and can serve as an initial step toward sustainable waste management in Nagari Simalanggang.
