Abstract

The increasing volume of uncontrolled waste accumulation has become a critical challenge to environmental sustainability in the era of globalization. Conventional waste management systems that rely solely on the collect–transport–dispose approach have proven to be increasingly ineffective due to the limited capacity of final disposal sites (landfills). This problem is further exacerbated by the low level of public awareness in separating waste at the source, resulting in the mixing of organic and non-organic waste, which hinders recycling processes.

Sustainable waste management requires a paradigm shift toward a circular economy concept through the implementation of the 3R principles (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). The optimization of integrated waste processing technologies and the strengthening of the role of waste banks have been shown to significantly reduce waste volumes before reaching landfills. Therefore, synergistic collaboration among government regulations, active community participation, and technological innovation is the key to establishing an environmentally friendly and economically valuable waste management system.
