Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of the case method to reduce misconceptions about magnetic concepts in high school physics learning, using ten journal articles and three supporting books. The synthesis shows that 60% of the journals report that misconceptions mainly arise from students’ prior conceptions and intuitive reasoning, such as misinterpreting magnetic field lines or equating magnetic force with other types of forces. Meanwhile, 30% of the journals highlight that the abstract nature of magnetic fields makes the concepts difficult to understand without proper representations. Additionally, 40% of the journals demonstrate that modern magnetic applications—such as hyperthermia, ELF magnetic fields, Hall-effect sensors, plasma, and microreactor technology—provide effective contextual cases for strengthening conceptual understanding. Overall, 50% of the journals support that the case method effectively reduces misconceptions by engaging students in real-world analysis, promoting cognitive conflict, and fostering critical thinking skills. Therefore, the case method is a relevant and meaningful instructional strategy to enhance students’ understanding of magnetic concepts and decrease misconceptions in high school physics learning.
