Abstract

Mental health issues, particularly burnout, have become increasingly prominent among Generation Z in today’s high-pressure work environment. Limited mental health literacy and persistent stigma often prevent individuals from openly discussing or seeking help for psychological distress. Along with the growth of digital media, podcasts have emerged as an alternative platform for delivering mental health messages in a more personal and reflective manner. This study aims to explore how burnout-related mental health communication is constructed through podcasts and how Generation Z listeners interpret these messages. This research adopts a qualitative descriptive approach within a constructivist paradigm. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with Generation Z listeners of the Merry Riana podcast episode “Blak-blakan Wanda Ponika tentang Mental Gen Z dan Work-Life Balance”, supported by documentation analysis. Data were analyzed using the interactive model proposed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. The findings indicate that podcasts function as informative, supportive, and emotionally engaging mental health communication media. The messages conveyed enhance listeners’ understanding of burnout, validate their psychological experiences, and encourage self-reflection as well as social discussion. This study concludes that podcasts represent a rich and effective medium for mental health communication, particularly in addressing burnout among Generation Z in the workplace.
