The manual lighting system on the rooftop of the Telecommunication Laboratory of Tanjungpura University is inefficient and wasteful of energy. The research aims to design and implement an Internet of Things (IoT)-based lighting control system, which specifically focuses on the communication of four virtual switches to enable separate, real-time control of lights. The method used is to design the system using an ESP32 NodeMCU microcontroller connected to four PJU lights through a 4-channel relay module, with a Thinger.io platform as the control interface. The test results validated the success of the four-switch communication: each virtual switch on the dashboard accurately controlled the specific lights mapped, with a 100% success rate with no cross-activation between channels in 10 test cycles. The system shows command response latency between 200–800 ms on Wi-Fi networks and 1–2 seconds on mobile networks, and is proven to be fully operable from outside the local network. This implementation successfully provides a flexible lighting control solution thanks to the four-switch architecture, allowing for more efficient energy management and significant operational improvements.
