PERAN DIRECTOR DALAM PROSES PEMBUATAN VIDEO DOKUMENTER “JEJAK BALI DI BEKASI: EDUKASI NUSANTARA DI TENGAH KOTA”

Abstract

This research discusses my direct role as the Director in the production process of a documentary entitled “Jejak Bali di Bekasi: Edukasi Nusantara di Tengah Kota” (Traces of Bali in Bekasi: Archipelagic Education in the Heart of the City). The documentary is driven by my interest in the Balinese community—residents of Kampung Bali—who continue to preserve their cultural identity amid the complexities of urban life in Bekasi. This work adopts a daily-narrative documentary format, emphasizing my involvement across all stages of production: pre-production, production, and post-production. In the pre-production phase, I was responsible for conceptualizing the narrative, conducting field observations, designing the visual framework, structuring content segments, and planning technical aspects. During production, I directed the field crew, guided interviewees, and ensured that the cinematographic style aligned with the initial vision and segment plans. In the post-production stage, I collaborated with the editor in selecting footage, organizing the narrative flow, synchronizing audio-visual components, and building the emotional tone that supports the documentary’s educational and cultural message.This documentary is intended not only as an informative medium but also as a socially relevant and emotionally engaging work. “Jejak Bali di Bekasi” serves as both an educational tool and a cultural representation that highlights and reinforces the values of multiculturalism and diversity in Indonesia. My directorial role was central in ensuring the coherence, consistency, and overall quality of the documentary production.
