Abstract

The blanking and piercing processes are crucial stages in the production of plate-based automotive components because they directly impact product quality and production efficiency. This study aims to analyze cutting forces, effective production time, and process efficiency in the manufacture of K41 side stand bracket components from SS400 steel using a press. The study used a descriptive quantitative approach through an industrial case study based on actual production process data without any system design or modification. The production processes analyzed included blanking using a 100-ton press and piercing using a 45-ton press. The calculation results showed that the cutting force in the blanking process was 222.2 kN, while in the piercing process it was 74.41 kN. These cutting force values were still below the capacity of the presses used, allowing the production process to proceed safely. Effective production times were recorded at 4.71 seconds per cycle for the blanking process and 5.75 seconds per cycle for the piercing process. The difference in effective production times was influenced by additional time such as handling and ejection. The results of the production efficiency evaluation showed that the blanking process had an efficiency of 81.8%, while the piercing process had an efficiency of 79.8%. The efficiency value, which has not yet reached 100%, indicates potential for improving process performance, particularly by reducing additional production time. The results of this study are expected to serve as a reference for evaluating and improving the efficiency of press-based automotive component production processes.
