Abstract
Cancer is a chronic disease that has a complex physical, psychological, and social impact on the sufferer, so comprehensive psychosocial support is needed to help patients adapt during the treatment process. This study aims to identify and synthesize empirical findings regarding the role of social support towards self-efficacy and quality of life of cancer patients within the biopsychosocial framework. The research uses the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method by searching for articles on the PubMed and ScienceDirect databases using keywords related to social support, self-efficacy, and quality of life. From a total of 215 articles found, 15 articles meet the inclusion criteria based on the year of publication, variable relevance, full text availability, and focus on the cancer patient population. The results of the synthesis show that social support has a multidimensional role that includes reducing physical symptoms, increasing the effectiveness of self-care, and increasing compliance with medication. In the psychological aspect, social support is proven to reduce distress, improve emotional adaptation, and strengthen self efficacy through verbal persuasion mechanisms, emotional validation, and vicarius experience Social support also improves social function, prevents isolation, and facilitates medical decision-making. In addition, several studies show that self efficacy plays a role as a mediator in the relationship of social support and quality of life, where increased self-confidence encourages more adaptive health behaviors. This finding confirms that interventions that integrate social support, strengthening self-efficacy, and physical and psychological strategies are needed to optimally improve the quality of life of cancer patients.
