This article focuses on the relationship between phonetics and phonology in Indonesian pronunciation. Sound pronunciation in modern Indonesian demonstrates a complex relationship between phonetics and phonology. Phonetics focuses on the concrete realization of sounds, while phonology functions as an abstract system that regulates the role of sounds in distinguishing meaning. The difference between phonological representation and phonetic realization often gives rise to pronunciation variations without affecting the understanding of meaning. This article aims to examine the phonetic-phonological relationship with an emphasis on the stability of the sound system amidst phonetic variation. The method used is descriptive-qualitative through a literature review. The results of the study indicate that phonetic variation is a natural phenomenon that confirms the resilience of the Indonesian phonological system.
