Reading interest has become a special concern in the field of education in Indonesia, as data from the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) shows that Indonesian students' average reading ability score is low compared to other ASEAN countries. The objective of this research is to determine the level of students' reading interest in science learning in class VII at SMP Negeri 34 Pekanbaru. The type of data used in this research is descriptive qualitative data obtained through interviews with students and science teachers. The results of this study indicate that students' and teachers' perceptions of reading interest in science learning at SMP Negeri 34 Pekanbaru tend to align. Both students and teachers assess that reading interest is present but not yet optimal and still needs improvement, particularly in terms of reading habits and consistency.
