Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the role of students' ability to pronounce Arabic letters correctly in developing reading skills in tenth-grade students at Madrasah Aliyah Mujahidin, Riau. The method used in this study was a qualitative approach with a case study. Data collection techniques were conducted through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, documentation, and student reading ability tests. The research subjects were tenth-grade students and Arabic language teachers at Madrasah Aliyah Mujahidin. Data analysis was carried out using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing techniques. The results showed that the ability to pronounce Arabic letters correctly plays a significant role in improving students' accuracy, fluency, and comprehension in reading Arabic texts. Supporting factors include a theoretical understanding of makharijul huruf, the application of varied and interactive learning methods, and regular practice in pronouncing letters. Conversely, limitations in these aspects negatively impact the development of students' reading skills. Therefore, good mastery of makharijul huruf is the main foundation for optimizing Arabic reading skills. It is recommended that educators integrate more innovative learning methods and provide more intensive pronunciation practice in the Arabic language learning process.
