This study presents a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to examine the implementation of Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) in Decision Support Systems (DSS) for location-based recommendations, particularly in the context of internship placement. The review covers 15 selected scientific publications retrieved from Google Scholar within the publication period of 2019–2025. Article selection followed PRISMA procedures and was evaluated using three Research Questions (RQ) to assess the relevance of method, publication year, and domain suitability. The findings indicate that TOPSIS is more widely utilized than SAW, especially in studies related to business and commercial site selection, followed by housing and institutional placement domains. These domains exhibit strong contextual relevance to internship placement decision-making. Furthermore, both methods demonstrate flexibility and robustness in multi-criteria evaluation and ranking processes. This study provides a clear mapping of research trends, methodological dominance, and implementation areas, serving as a reference for the development of future DSS in internship recommendation systems.
