One Empty Chair at the Dining Table is a documentary film that raises the issue of the unequal role of fathers in families, particularly the increasingly widespread phenomenon of fatherlessness in Indonesia. In this film, the author uses an expository documentary style with a narrative and argumentative approach to convey information objectively, descriptively, and convincingly to the audience. The creation of this work was motivated by concerns about the decreasing involvement of father figures in household life, which impacts child development, family harmony, and social structures in society. This film aims to provide education, information, and social reflection on the importance of a father's presence in the family, while also being a medium for collective awareness for the community to pay more attention to the role and responsibilities of a father. The expository style approach is realized through the use of Voice of God narrative, in-depth interviews with primary and supporting sources, visual documentation of family activities, and illustrations in the form of archival footage and supporting footage. Data were collected through library research, document studies, field observations, and interviews with sources directly related to the theme, including academics, family practitioners, and individuals experiencing unequal father roles. The process of creating this work includes several stages: preparation, design, production, post-production, and presentation. The final result is a documentary film with a duration of approximately 25 minutes divided into three segments: the background of the fatherless phenomenon in Indonesia, the true story of a family experiencing unequal father roles, and reflections and views of experts on its impact on children and society. By combining strong narrative elements and emotional visuals, this film is expected to be an audio-visual work that is not only informative, but also touching and encourages social change.
