Abstract

The distribution of fresh vegetables in West Java Province continues to face major challenges, including logistical inefficiencies, prolonged lead times, and high post-harvest losses. The lack of integration within the agribusiness supply chain leads to significant resource waste, quality degradation, and economic losses at the farm level reaching up to 30-40%. Discrete Event Simulation (DES) is a simulation approach based on discrete events that enables detailed modeling of logistics systems and the testing of optimization scenarios without direct intervention in real-world operations. This literature study analyzes national and international publications concerning the application of DES in the distribution of horticultural commodities, particularly in developing countries such as Indonesia. The findings consistently show that DES can reduce distribution lead times by up to 35%, lower logistics costs by 25%, and improve fleet utilization and route efficiency. Consequently, DES holds great potential as a strategic decision-support tool for agribusiness distribution planning in West Java, aimed at enhancing logistics efficiency, minimizing post-harvest losses, and strengthening regional food security.
