Abstract
This study aims to analyze the effect of interest rates, inflation and Non Performing Loans (NPL) on the demand for working capital loans at commercial banks in Indonesia. The data used are secondary data in the form of time series covering the period 1999–2024. The analytical method employed is multiple linear regression. The results show that interest rates have a significant negative effect on the demand for working capital loans, inflation has no significant effect, while NPL has a significant positive effect. This finding is noteworthy since, in theory, an increase in NPL should encourage banks to reduce loan disbursement. However, in this study, the positive relationship is suspected to be associated with fraudulent practices in the banking sector, such as fictitious loan disbursement, which leads to an increase in working capital loan distribution along with a rise in non performing loans. This phenomenon highlights the importance of internal supervision and strict regulations to maintain the integrity of the banking system.
