Abstract

The development of puzzle platformer games, particularly those utilizing minimalist visual styles, presents unique challenges in balancing puzzle difficulty with immersive narratives without explicit verbal cues . This study aims to develop a history-themed educational puzzle game by implementing a 'faceless' character style and interactive environments to enhance player immersion and validate the effectiveness of level design on player engagement. The development method employed is the Multimedia Development Life Cycle (MDLC) by Luther-Sutopo, consisting of Concept, Design, Material Collecting, Assembly, Testing, and Distribution phases, implemented using the Unity Game Engine. The character design is minimalist to facilitate player self-projection, while the environment is constructed using a modular system . Testing was conducted on 20 respondents aged 15-25 years. Black Box testing results demonstrated a 100% functionality success rate. User Experience (UX) evaluation yielded positive results, with 85% of respondents rating the game as easy to play (learnability) and 90% expressing interest and satisfaction with the historical material and puzzle mechanisms . The study concludes that the integration of minimalist visual elements and interactive physics is effective in creating an immersive atmosphere and increasing interest in learning history, although further development of technical features, such as a save progress system, is required.
