PERAN IBU DALAM PENGASUHAN MANDIRI ANAK BERKEBUTUHAN KHUSUS: TANTANGAN DAN STRATEGI

Abstract

Children with special needs (CSN) are individuals who require special attention, services, and assistance in their growth and development. Within the family context, the role of parents, especially mothers, is highly dominant in caregiving. The situation becomes more complex when a mother has to raise a CSN independently without the presence of a partner. This article aims to describe the challenges, strategies, and forms of support needed by mothers in independently raising children with special needs. The method used is a qualitative library research approach, by reviewing various relevant literature sources such as books, journals, articles, and research reports. The findings show that mothers face multiple challenges, including physical, psychological, social, and economic aspects. However, mothers are also able to develop diverse caregiving strategies, ranging from providing unconditional love, adjusting parenting patterns, training the child’s independence, to building supportive networks through communities. This article also emphasizes the importance of support from extended families, society, and the government in alleviating the burdens of mothers. In conclusion, the role of mothers in independently raising CSN is a crucial pillar that requires recognition, appreciation, and tangible support so that children can develop optimally and be fully accepted in an inclusive social environment.
