Abstract
Women involved in punk communities often experience multiple forms of social stigma, including stigma from the general public, family, and gender-based stigma related to their identity and lifestyle choices. Such stigma may lead to sustained psychological distress, requiring individuals to develop adaptive coping strategies. This study aims to explore the lived experiences of stigma and the coping strategies employed by female members of Punk Community X in Sidoarjo. This study adopts a qualitative phenomenological approach using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). The participants consisted of five women aged 20–40 years who are active members of Punk Community X. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews and passive participant observation. The findings reveal that participants experienced social stigma, gender-based stigma, and family-related stigma. In response, they employed various coping strategies, including problem-focused coping, emotion-focused coping, and meaning-focused coping. These coping strategies were dynamic and developed over time, influenced by life experiences and social support. The findings highlight that women in punk communities are not merely objects of stigma but active agents who construct meaning and psychological resilience in the face of social pressure.
