Abstract
This study examines how digital media content influences financial literacy and money-management behavior among Generation Z. The research responds to the growing exposure of young people to online content from luxury-lifestyle displays to financial education which may shape their financial perceptions and decisions. Using a descriptive quantitative method, data were collected through an online survey with 22 Gen Z respondents aged 15–25.
The results show that respondents are frequently exposed to both flexing and financial-education content. Digital media exerts a moderate influence on lifestyle perception and purchasing decisions. Overall, respondents demonstrate a generally adequate level of financial literacy, particularly in distinguishing needs from wants, though some still struggle with evaluating the credibility of financial information. In terms of money management, many respondents report creating simple budgets and prioritizing essential spending, although tendencies toward impulse buying influenced by digital content remain observable.
The study concludes that digital media content plays a meaningful but moderate role in shaping financial understanding and spending behavior among Gen Z. Nonetheless, further reinforcement is needed in critical evaluation of financial information and in reducing impulsive consumption driven by online trends.
