Abstract

This study aims to analyze the contribution of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to the economic growth of North Sumatra during the 2023–2025 period, using Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) as the main indicator. The central issue examined is how MSMEs can strengthen the regional economic structure amid limited capital, low technological literacy, and suboptimal fiscal policies. The research employs a quantitative descriptive-analytical approach with secondary data obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of North Sumatra, the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, and Bank Indonesia. The analysis was conducted through sectoral descriptive methods to observe MSME contribution trends and multiple linear regression to test the influence of independent variables on GRDP. The findings reveal that MSMEs contribute significantly to North Sumatra’s GRDP, particularly in the service, agriculture, trade, and creative industry sectors. The study concludes that strengthening MSMEs through targeted fiscal policies, integration of Islamic economic principles, and accelerated digitalization is a key strategy to ensure sustainable and inclusive economic growth in North Sumatra.
