Forests play an important role in storing biomass and carbon as part of climate change mitigation efforts. This study aimed to estimate vegetation biomass in the Nagari Simpang Kapuak Forest, Mungka Subdistrict, Lima Puluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra. The research was conducted using a survey method with nested plot sampling determined through purposive sampling. Measurements were carried out at sapling, pole, and tree levels using diameter at breast height (DBH) and wood density as parameters. Biomass estimation was calculated using allometric equations. The results showed that biomass values varied among observation plots, with the highest biomass recorded in Plot 5 at 33,454.95 ton/ha and the lowest in Plot 1 at 14,361.34 ton/ha. The total accumulated biomass from all sampled plots reached 237,978.82 ton/ha. These results indicate that the Nagari Simpang Kapuak Forest has a high biomass reserve and a strong potential for aboveground carbon storage. The quantitative data obtained from this study can serve as a scientific basis for sustainable forest management and local-scale climate change mitigation strategies.
